Step into the life of a Southern Landlord – A unique cultural journey found only at My Khanh, Can Tho.
1. About the Program: “A Day as a Landlord”
Have you ever wondered what life was like for the wealthy Southern landowners of old Vietnam – with the Ông Hội Đồng (Councilor), Bà Cả (Madam), Thầy Cai (Supervisor), Con Sen (Maid), and Tá Điền (Tenants)?
At My Khanh Eco Tourism Village (Can Tho), the program “Back to Tây Đô – A Day as a Landlord” lets you relive that golden era in the most authentic and engaging way.
This exclusive cultural tourism experience vividly recreates the daily life of Southern landlords in the 1930s.
Guests are transformed into noble figures, served tea, entertained with traditional music, taken on a scenic estate tour, and treated to an authentic Southern-style “Landlord’s Feast.”
2. A 4-Hour Journey of Immersive Cultural Experience
Grand Welcome – The Beginning of the Landlord’s Day
Right from the village gate, guests are greeted with full ceremony: attendants dressed in traditional attire, carrying fans, umbrellas, and parasols, respectfully welcoming Ông, Bà, Cậu, Mợ into the estate.
The traditional melodies of Đờn Ca Tài Tử echo through the air, transporting visitors back to the vibrant Mekong Delta of a century ago.
Changing Attire – Becoming a True Landlord
At the 115-year-old ancient Southern house, guests change into elegant silk costumes: áo dài, khăn đóng, and traditional bà ba attire.
Here, the “landlord family” enjoys tea, traditional cakes, and listens as the steward reports on the harvest season, accompanied by vintage melodies from an antique gramophone.
Every detail — from wooden furniture and tea sets to the gentle scent of lotus — recreates the refined yet warm ambiance of Southern aristocratic life.
Exploring the Estate – By Train, Electric Car, or Horse Carriage
After the welcoming ceremony, the steward escorts the landlord family around the estate using period-appropriate transport: a mini train, electric car, or horse-drawn carriage.
Along the way, guests will explore the fruit orchards, colorful flower gardens, fish-feeding ponds, crocodile fishing area, mini zoo, and various traditional folk games.
The journey is filled with fun, laughter, and photo-worthy moments.
Highlights include pig races, dog races, and animal circus performances, providing joyful entertainment for the entire family.
Cultural Discovery and Traditional Crafts
Guests also visit the Cultural House of the Four Ethnic Groups of the Mekong Delta: Kinh – Hoa – Cham – Khmer, learning about their customs, beliefs, and traditional architecture.
Continue your exploration at craft villages and heritage workshops, where you can observe or try your hand at making rice wine, rice paper, or coconut candy – the timeless crafts of the Southern countryside.
The Landlord’s Feast – Elegance in Every Detail
After the estate tour, attendants present fresh floral handwash, fan the guests, and serve the exquisite “Noble Landlord’s Feast”, featuring 8 signature Southern dishes accompanied by cakes, sweet soup, tea, local rice wine, and seasonal fruits.
Amid the tranquil atmosphere of the ancient house, the melodious sounds of Đờn Ca Tài Tử evoke the refined grace of a bygone era.
Each dish is delicately prepared and artistically presented — a true reflection of Southern hospitality and sophistication
